Valley of The Flowers UCC FAQ’S
Visiting a new church can be nerve-wracking. If you’re coming to Valley of the Flowers for the first time, hopefully our FAQ’s will help ease your mind.
What should I wear?
Sunday morning worship at Valley of the Flowers is “Come as you are.” Dress in a style that’s comfortable for you, whether it’s dressy, casual, or somewhere in between!
Parking
We have a parking lot and plenty of street parking.
Is the church accessible?
Yes. The sanctuary and fellowship hall are accessible, including an accessible restroom.
What should I expect when I arrive?
A greeter will welcome you and give you a program for the service. If you’re comfortable, we’d love it if you sign our guest book and include your email address so we can add you to our weekly newsletter.
Who attends worship at Valley of the Flowers?
Diversity is important to us and central to our culture. You’ll see people of different races, ages, classes, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. We mean it when we say “All are welcome.”
What is the worship service like?
We have a casual worship style. Included in the service are guided, silent, and participatory prayers. We sing traditional hymns and contemporary music. The sermon is about 15-20 minutes long, and the service runs about an hour. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. Our communion table is open to everyone. Jesus never excluded anyone from his table, and neither do we.
What options are there for kids?
We welcome kids in worship. We also have a Sunday School program that runs concurrently with worship.
Lunch
We have a potluck lunch after worship every Sunday. We welcome visitors and would love to get to know you. Don’t worry if you don’t bring a dish for lunch; it’s usually quite a spread!
Weddings and Baptisms
Valley of the Flowers is delighted to perform weddings for all who wish to celebrate their sacred union before God in our church. LGBTQ+ couples are warmly welcome. This is one of the ways we live out our commitment to being an Open and Affirming community
We’re happy to baptize adults or children who have never been baptized. You don’t need to be a member of the church to have your child baptized at Valley of the Flowers. Speak with our pastor if you’re interested.
Holy Communion
Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. All people seeking to follow the Lord are welcome to receive communion at Valley of the Flowers; you don’t have to be a member.
